Creating a visible language.
For my visible language, I aimed to create azine filled with icons using
Ancient Greek diacritics. In the South of Cyprus we only learn
to read and write in Greek and as a Greek-speaking Cypriot, I feel that it would be valuable
to start writing in the Cypriot dialect to help preserve certain words that are currently only
used verbally. This could only be achieved with the use of diacritics. In the past, diacritics
were used to be able to pronounce words correctly while reading. However, as time passed and
people stopped speaking and writing in Ancient Greek, these diacritics disappeared too. They
only kept the most important ones which are diaresis (ϊ) and acute (ί).
